The mid-length crossover and SUV scene is growing with entry, but the three-row Kia Sorento is really worth considering. Seating seven, the Sorento offers the implementation of the larger V6-powered Telluride with a more economical fuel system and various powertrain configurations. This front-wheel drive SUV is typically equipped with a 4-horsepower 191 in-house engine and an 8-stroke automatic transmission. However, we think customers should consider including all-wheel drive and an upgrade to the Sorento's 281-horsepower four-cylinder engine. The Kia Sorento also features a 227-horsepower hybrid engine that returns a combined EPA-predicted 37 mpg and a 261-horsepower hybrid PHEV configuration with an estimated 32-mile battery-powered range. What's New for 2023
Sorento was launched in 2023 with no major changes to its grand lineup. All models are now modern with blind-spot tracking and backup alerts for cross-site visitors, although the S tier now comes with a Wi-Fi phone charging pad. The mid-range EX model features an eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat and frameless mirrors; The luxury SX now has a 12.3-inch virtual screen, foldable exterior mirrors and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Kia has discontinued the base version of the Sorento Hybrid S, introducing the full-featured SX-P Hybrid cabin with stylish four-wheel drive, 17-inch wheels, leather seats and second-row seating. The Hybrid EX also gets a touch of love with its eight-way adjustable passenger seat and frameless mirrors. For 2023, the Sorento PHEV comes exclusively with the SX Prestige trim. The PHEV SX-Prestige has all the gear, along with retractable tailgate awnings, 115-volt deflectors, and a 32-mile electric drivetrain variant
Pricing and Which One to Buy
We love the EX level. It's more expensive than the smaller Sorento, but it's a favorite with the more efficient 281-hp four-cylinder engine. It also has better amenities than the S trim below. It consists of leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, blind spot monitoring, rear visitor alert, extended start and sleek styling, as well as 18-inch wheels and black exterior accents. Combining compression on all wheels with the EX costs an additional $3700. That amount also gives EX AWD consumers the X-Line Appearance Package, which includes 1.0-inch all-wheel drive height, 20-inch wheels and tires, and a bridge-type roof rack
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Sorento has a wide range of engines and is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A 191 bhp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is known and a 281 bhp 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is also available. Both are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, while the hybrid version uses a six-speed automatic gearbox. We run the top-of-the-line Rapid 4 SX model and prefer the hard drive, but we like the drivetrain that feels more responsive right out of the box. The fit version offers confident handling, long ride, and feedback on the brake pedal. The green Sorento Hybrid has a fast 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor that together make 227 horsepower. The all-wheel drive Sorento Hybrid is powered by the same engine and transmission as the smaller hybrid, but with this software, the transmission produces a mix of 261 horsepower thanks to a more powerful electric motor
